The Relationship Manager sets out to attract new customers and improve relationships with existing customers. An important part of their job is to help increase customer spend by strengthening client relations while offering relevant upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
Essential parts of a Relationship Manager’s job description:
- Relationship Managers generally work in one of two fields: business relationship management or client relationship management
- Specialisation in one of these two fields is more common in larger firms, whereas in smaller organisations the Relationship Manager tends to take on both roles
- They normally work in, or closely with, the Customer Service, Client Success, and/or Sales departments
- Relationship Managers are skilful communicators who can easily build new client relations, maintain established relations, and improve even the most strained existing relations
